Season one of The Bear brought the stress and reality of working in a restaurant into the spotlight. People who have worked in Michelin-starred kitchens called the depiction of trauma in that setting painfully real. The first season of the FX on Hulu series ended with Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy closing his brother’s restaurant, The Original Beef of Chicagoland. He plans to get back to his finer dining roots. Carmy worked at places like NOMA and The French Laundry before returning to Chicago to make beef subs. With Ayo Edebiri’s Sydney and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Richie at his side, Carmy will open this new joint. The Bear season two trailer makes it look like everything will go fine, just fine.
If keeping a restaurant going was stressful, getting The Bear (the restaurant) off the ground is on the next level. Stress radiates from the trailer, and we kind of can’t get enough of it? There’s something to be said for watching stress that is in no way yours. Carmy and Sydney have to figure out the menu. Along with Carmy’s sister, they have to ask for additional money. The crew has to gut the restaurant and remodel. And the cooking staff? Culinary school.
The Bear season two trailer description states:
FX’s new original series The Bear is about food, family, the insanity of the grind, the beauty of Sense of Urgency and the steep slippery downsides. As the young chef Carmy fights to transform both The Original Beef of Chicagoland and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges kitchen crew that ultimately reveal themselves as his chosen family.
Okay, we’re hungry.
The Bear season two will premiere on FX on Hulu on June 22.
